FIRST Robotics competition
by Adelaide Z | 7 avril 2010Earlier this year, four Montreal-area public high schools competed in the FIRST Robotics Competition with a little help from Youth Fusion and some world-class tech companies including Vigilant Futures. One school made it to the semi-finals and another won the judges’ Award for Perseverance. In just six short weeks and some pretty busy weekends, 45 kids built robots that could play soccer.
According to a Brandeis University study, kids involved in the FIRST Robotics Competition are:
- More than 3 times as likely to major specifically in engineering;
- Roughly 10 times as likely to have had an apprenticeship, internship, or co-op job in their freshman year;
- Significantly more likely to expect to achieve a post graduate degree;
- More than twice as likely to expect to pursue a career in science and technology;
- Nearly 4 times as likely to expect to pursue a career specifically in engineering;
- More than twice as likely to volunteer in their communities.
Regardless of our continuous humiliation on the basketball court and the real possibility of being outplayed by robots on the soccer field…Vigilant Futures is extremely proud of the kids and is so impressed with their accomplishments on such a tight deadline. Congratulations to all!
