Finding the way of the bow

Several of us took a trip to Pierre Bédard Park for an archery lesson with ARTAM this past saturday. What a challenge! Archery is definitely not an easy sport. It takes lots of strength to pull back the bowstring and hold the bow steady, and it definitely takes skill to find the best way to aim.

The first trick to learning archery is determining which eye is your dominant one; basically, the eye that aims best. Apparently, most people find that their right eye is their dominant one. It turns out that our group had a majority of left-eye archers. It appears that we like to do things differently.

After a good hour and a half of practice, it was clear that some of us were naturals and some of us were... not so much. There were a few unfortunate run-ins with twangy bowstrings that left some with bruised arms, but all-in-all it was a morning well-spent!
